Characters That Made My Year – Ayumu Aikawa (Twelve Days of Christmas: Day Eleven)

December 24, 2011

Penultimate day woo!!  Okay today has another character from one of my Guilty Pleasure shows – Ayumu Aikawa from Kore wa Zombie Desu ka?

Zombies, vampire ninjas, magical girls & shinigami – Korean Zombie Desk Car was a demented show.  I didn’t expect to like the series, I went into the first episode highly skeptical that the show would provide any entertainment value at all………boy was I ever proven wrong.  The madcap energy and willingness to just be as stupid as human possible while still being funny, made the show a must watch.  It kind of ran out of steam midway through when it decided to fire in a ‘plot’ and also started to rely a bit too much on standard harem antics, but I had enough fun with the show to still think well of it.

As a protagonist Ayumu was one of the better male leads out there.  He’s very droll most of the time, seeming unfazed by the fact he’s been killed & raised as zombie and even taking the fact his home has become overrun by demented women with supernatural powers in his stride.  As a teenage boy he isn’t immune to the standard perverted hijinks, but his placcid, snarky personality is generally what shines through…….even when he’s sporting a pink mini-dress with more frills than is healthy for any males masculinity.

Indeed it is that wonderful Magical Girl transformation that Ayumu is forced to go through that I have picked as his standout moment.  It’s in episode 1 and was the main reason I decided I had to watch this show – it is simply hilarious.

Ahahahah yes!! Ayumu wow this character went through so much hell, from being stabbed, cut in half, run over and exploding into tiny pieces…this guy needs a serious vacation. But the most OH MY GOD WTF moments where the magical-boy-transformation scenes they were so random but easily the most hilarious.

And the “power up” scene when Ayumu gets 1000% prettier to defeat the whale! That is one of the best magical-boy scenes for the entire series.

I was going to go for the Super Mahou Shounen Vs Whale scene, but opted for the original power-up instead………that whale power-up was fecking hilarious though!

I dropped this show at episode 1 for being too stupid (and also for that, eh, magical boy scene) – is it worth it to pick it up again? I feel like I’m seriously missing out on a decent comedy 😦

If you didn’t like the stupidity of the first episode, do yourself a favour and skip the rest of the show – it gets even more retarded as time goes on.

I personally liked the inane ridiculousness of the show so I found it hilarious for the most part, but it really is a comedy show not that’s not to everyone’s taste.
