My Nominations for Sai Mecha 2012: The Super Dimensional Robot Tournament!
Yes it’s once again time for Sai Mecha, that prestigious tournament aimed at those of us who prefer giant robots to little girls. The nominations stage is now open, so have your say in the final 32 and get your votes in now!
Just like last year, the selection criteria isn’t all that strict, but this time round the four mecha that made it the semi-finals are already seeded. This is a good thing as it frees up more slots in your ballot to vote for other units! I’ve already submitted my nominations, and here they are – be jealous of my fantastic taste!
1. The Delphine – Break Blade
The Dephine deserves a vote just because of it’s fantastic final weapon – a fecking shuriken on a bungee cord. You just can’t make that shit up. The mecha in Break Blade were just amazing to watch – huge lumbering behemoths that clunked about in heavy crystal based armor. Among these golem the Delphine was unique as it was not crystal based and it’s pilot is unable to manipulate the Break Blade worlds brand of magic. The result was that the Delphine’s battles were both visceral and clunky – the epitome of which is the shuriken yo-yo that became its final weapon. Awesome stuff.
2. Master Gundam – Mobile Fighter G Gundam
Just look at it. Just look. It’s a Gundam on a horse. A GUNDAM ON A HORSE. No other explanation is required, this mere fact already makes the Master Gundam fecking awesome.
3. Aquarion EVOL – Aquarion EVOL
Powered by the raging hormones of teenagers and pure cheese, Aquarion EVOL is the most recent addition to my list of favourite mecha – it’s story is still ongoing, and each week brings us hilarious new attacks and combinations. The sheer variety that the Aquarion brings to the table is rather staggering, as the form it takes depends on the powers & feelings of the three teens required to pilot it. Aquarion EVOL is an awesome show with an awesome titular mech – GO AQUARION!
4. VF-29 Durandal Valkyrie – Macross Frontier: Sayonara no Tsubasa
Don’t have much other reason for nominating this apart from thinking it’s a pretty damn gorgeous machine, and really I don’t need any other reason! The final battle that Alto-hime undertakes in this latest Valkyrie was stunning, providing a brilliant climax to the wonderful 2nd Macross Frontier movie. Such a good-looking mech in action!
Rounding out my ballot are the same units I nominated last year:
