Characters that made my year – Chamber (The Twelve Days of Christmas: Day Three)

December 16, 2013

12daysofchristmasOn this third day of Christmas let us salute the best character from Suisei no Gargantia – the giant robot, Chamber.

Chamber - GargantiaSuisei no Gargantia was a show that had some interesting ideas, but just didn’t seem to know how to put them all together into a cohesive show.  So we ended up with a huge mishmash of stuff that didn’t really gel together properly.  However I can forgive it all that because it gave us a giant robot that was the ultimate Bro to its pilot.  Voiced by the awesome Sugita Tomokazu Chamber outshone most of the human characters and he did it despite lacking facial expressions!

The best Sugita-bot Bro moment was Chamber’s heroic sacrifice in episode 13.  In the showdown against Striker, the corrupted AI of a similar mecha, Chamber makes the decision to save his pilot so Ledo can live out his life on Gargantia as a normal human.  The resulting speech and actions which led to Chamber being blown to bits along with Striker had to be one of the best death scenes this year – and it was a fecking robot!  This is why I love anime – RIP Chamber, you were a true bro to the end.

Chamber really did steal the show! His last words, “Die, tin can!” gave us one of the greatest moments that season. Though, my favorite death scene is still Kikuchiyo’s of Samurai 7.

Chamber shall be remembered. When he went at Striker in that way I couldn’t help but think of The Iron Giant saying “Superman”. He was a good bot.

I’ll also happily raise a toast in loving memory of Chamber. What a guy – hands down the best character of the series.

Easily the best character – which speaks volumes about Garganita’s human cast really
