Characters that made my year – Levi (The Twelve Days of Christmas: Day Twelve)

December 25, 2013

12daysofchristmasSo it is the final day (I managed to keep up……even if I’m way late with all my usual stuff as a result), and what better way to celebrate Christmas than with the personification of optimism and goodwill, Levi from Attack on Titan……what!?

Levi - Attack on TitanI massively enjoyed Attack on Titan, it’s just my kind of show with all its epic scale, awesome action and memorable cast of characters.  It is hugely popular and since my tastes generally run to the more mainstream side, it isn’t really surprising that I ended up loving it so much.

Levi ended up being my favourite character.  Again, hardly surprising given my usual tendency to enjoy the fuck out of characters that are utter bastards, so I’m going to go out on a limb here and say no one is surprised by this choice.  Levi is an awesome character to watch in action – he’s a genius with the 3D Manoeuvre Gear and the animators just seemed to love pouring cash into any scene with him on full on whirling dervish of death mode.  Levi commands complete respect from his subordinates due to his skill, and because he is such a talented veteran of the Survey Corps (nothing to sniff at given their life-expectancy) he is the subject of much awe throughout the military.  As a character he comes across as aloof and cold, but has a surprisingly compassionate side and genuinely cares for his subordinates – Levi is just a very interesting character to me.

I’ve ended up picking episode 14 as my favourite Levi moment – simply because I really enjoyed watching someone finally kick the cockiness out of Eren.  Levi is doing it to show that the Survey Corps can keep Eren under control and pretty much save his skin, but Eren doesn’t know that and thus Levi really has to beat the shit out of him to take him down a peg or three.  And Levi does it without flinching, even though he doesn’t really think the teenager deserves it – indeed Levi and Eren eventually seem to get on pretty well in future episodes – but Levi is used to doing necessary things that are a bit distasteful and doesn’t complain.  Because Levi is awesome and doesn’t take shit from anyone.

Yes finally someone has the same opinion on that scene being the best one! I simply hate Eren, so seeing him get beaten up like that by one of my favorite characters was just awesome.

There is something strangely satisfying to having someone finally kick Eren in the face – made my day anyway.

You sadist😛. Is it just me, but I found; Levi, Armin, Annie, Jean and Sasha (potatoe girl) the more interesting characters. Mikasa kicks ass in one way, but is bland in another.

Mikasa is great in action, but pretty one dimensional as a character. I don’t find her interesting.

Heichou is amazing! Though Mikasa is my favourite character, Levi’s fighting scenes are amazing. Anyway, Merry Christmas!

I enjoyed watching Mikasa in action – girl can fecking fight! – but she isn’t all that interesting to me as a character.
