Characters that made my year – Yona (12 Days of Anime: Day 3)
Day three and it’s time for one of the better female characters of the year – Yona from Akatsuki no Yona.
It’s been a while since I enjoyed a shoujo series so much, and indeed it feels like ages since the last historical fantasy reverse harem series, but Akatsuki no Yona adequately scratched that itch I didn’t know existed. A bit slow to get going, but still very engaging thanks to the fun cast of characters, the series definitely ended up being one of the shows I enjoyed a lot when it was airing.
Yona herself took a while to really warm to. Starting out as a pampered princess who constantly needed saving, she gradually started to get more and more confident and independent as the series went on, becoming a very strong character towards the end of the series. I’d really like another season of this show, just to see how much more Yona grows as a person.
Great choice! I really enjoyed Yona’s character as well, especially when she got that intense burning look in her eyes whenever she was backed into a corner. I would definitely watch another season of this anime, too!
I really liked the way Yona’s eyes were drawn too. Wonder what the chances of a sequel are?
