Characters that made my year – Angelise Ikaruga Mitsurugi (12 Days of Anime: Day 8)
Okay time for something a bit different! Not so much a favourite character or a really great show, but rather a completely repellent character from a show that was unbelievably terrible. Princess Angelise ‘Ange’ Ikaruga Mitsurugi from Cross Ange: Rondo of Angels and Dragons.
I watched all of Cross Ange. It was like a car crash piled on top of a trainwreck that just kept accumulating more and more carnage as it ploughed on, and I could not look away! Each week I tuned in to see what new depths the show would plumb, and even though I thought I was prepared for/ had seen the worst already, it consistently surprised me with just how utterly terrible it could be. Every. Single. Week. It was a very memorable 25 weeks……..fecking hell, did I really watch 25 episodes of this trash!? Where is my award?
Anyway I chose Ange, the main character, to fly the flag for this entry simply because she is normally at the centre of all the awful things that happen in this show. From that unbelievable opening episode with the baby in a cage, through verbal & sexual assaults, lesbian threesomes, dragon slaying (they were people all along!!!) all the way to Ange saving the day and planting her crotch in her boyfriend’s face in celebration and that Gundam SEED rip-off of an OP. Cross Ange was a uniquely awful show that really needs to be seen to be believed……..but don’t watch it!
And yet, somehow, it wasn’t as tasteless as Your Lie in April.
True. At least I finished Cross Ange – I ended up rage quitting Your Lie in April.
In the middle of finishing this show by the way. Thank you Cross Ange for ruining dragons everywhere.
……why. Why are you finishing it? Run! Save yourself the headache!
I’m nearly done. It’s a little too late to avoid the headache, which I’m alleviating thanks to extensive usage of the Jurassic Park theme on Youtube.
It isn’t that bad, if it has some merit to it.
Oh it is that bad – I probably wouldn’t have lasted the show if I didn’t have Twitter as an outlet for my incredulity.
This anime makes me cringe at just the very mention of its name.
Highly memorable, truly awful show.
