Winter 2016 Anime Preview!

December 24, 2015

winter anime large

Hello! Merry Christmas~!  No I didn’t forget, but I’ve been so busy it’s a fecking Christmas miracle this bloody thing is finished!  I actually started the draft the 1st week of December, but then all the time seemed to vanish, so here we are on Christmas Eve for some reason.

Anyway, the Autumn season ended up being a bit of a mixed bag – shows I was looking forward to didn’t quite live up to the hype and shows I was a bit iffy about ended up being my favourites of the season!  Just goes to show you, I can be mistaken………not often given my impeccable taste, but it can happen!  So lets have a look at what’s coming out in the next few weeks then.

Sequels / Spin-offs

Akagami no Shirayukihime S2 (Snow White with the Red Hair S2)

Summary: Second season of the anime adaptation of Sorata Akiduki’s shoujo manga series.

Shirayuki is a beautiful girl working as a medicine woman with red hair, a colour that is considered very rare. When she is proposed and chased after by the prince of her country, she cuts her hair and runs away, only to meet Zen, the prince of a neighbouring country. Finding respect for the young man, she decides to serve at his side as his court doctor.

I ended up like Shirayukihime more than I expected, but probably not as much as it’s fans.  It’s a perfectly nice shoujo show, with perfectly nice characters, living perfectly nice lives.  I am pleased that there is actual progression on the central romance though, and the class divide issue does add a bit of drama to things.  But otherwise Shirayukihime is just a nice show to spend time with.  Looking forward to the second season.

Assassination Classroom S2

Summary: Second season of the anime adaptation of Yusei Matsui’s shounen manga series.

The students of class 3-E have a mission: kill their teacher before graduation. He has already destroyed the moon, and has promised to destroy the Earth if he isn’t killed within a year. But how can this class of misfits kill a tentacled monster, capable of reaching Mach 20 speed, who may be the best teacher any of them have ever had?

I thoroughly enjoyed season one, so I’m definitely up for some more tentacled assassination shenanigans!

Durarara!! X2 Ketsu

Summary: Continuation of the anime adaptation of Ryohgo Narita’s light novel series.

The story takes place a half year after the first series at Tokyo’s Ikebukuro neighbourhood and follows on from the summer season’sDrrrr!! x2 Ten.

Final part of the second season of Drrr!! and while I haven’t been as enraptured of this sequel as I was of the original series, it has still had some great moments.  Will certainly be watching this final instalment – hopefully the pay-off of all this build up will be worth it.  If not at least I’ll always have Izaya to entertain me.

Fairy Tail Zero

Summary: Anime adaptation of Hiro Mashima’s spin-off prequel to the Fairy Tail manga exploring how the guild was founded.

Many years ago, Mavis Vermilion was a servant on Sirius Island, mistreated by a guild master and his daughter, Zera. But Mavis stayed positive, because her mother once told her that fairies never visit people who cry about their problems. When the guild came under attack, Mavis pulled Zera from the wreckage into the forest. Seven years went by, and the powerful wizards Warrod Sequen, Precht, and Yuri Dreyer arrived on the island, seeking a powerful jade gemstone. This journey would change the course of magical history.

I’m actually not all that sure if this is a TV series or a special.  I think they could stretch the manga to a TV series, but think about 6 episodes would be plenty to cover the story really.  I gave up on the Fairy Tail anime last year, but I’m still keeping up with the manga, so I’ll certainly catch this when it comes out – I quite liked the prequel story.

Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri – Enryuu-hen (S2)

Summary: Second season of the anime adaptation of Takumi Yanai’s light novel series.

A gate appears in Tokyo’s Ginza district sometime in the 21st century. From the gate pours out monsters, knights from middle-age Europe, and other fantasy-like beings, and they kill many of the citizens of Tokyo. This event is known as the Ginza Incident. The government sends a small group of soldiers from the Japanese Self-Defense Forces to the alternate world beyond the gate. Led by otaku soldier Yōji, they find that the villages in the world are being attacked by a dragon. An elf girl who is a survivor from the dragon’s rampage joins the group in their travels across the dangerous new world.

I don’t even know why I finished the first season of GATE.  It wasn’t as terrible as I was expecting, but it wasn’t good either.  I’ll probably watch this second season if I have the time though……..still don’t know why.

Schwarzesmarken

Summary: Anime adaptation of the spin-off novel to Age’s Muv-Luv Alternative visual novel.

The novel’s story focuses on the 666th in 1983, 18 years before the events of the earlier serialized novel Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse.

I only lasted an episode of that Muv-Luv anime that come out a few years ago.  I have no desire to repeat the experience.

Nurse Witch Komugi-chan R

Summary: Update of the 2002-2005 Nurse Witch Komugi-chan anime with a new cast & designs.

Komugi Yoshida is a somewhat clumsy second-year middle-school student whose strong point is her spiritedness. She performs as an idol like Kokona Saionji (her classmate and close friend) and Tsukasa Kisaragi (an idol who dresses in male clothing). However, unlike Kokona whose popularity is skyrocketing and Tsukasa with her charisma in male attire, Komugi’s only gigs are low-end ones like those at the local shopping district. Still, Komugi has her “dream” as she lives her dual lives as a idol and a middle school girl. One day, a mysterious injured creature named Usa-P appears before Komugi and asks if she wants to be a Legendary Girl who can use magical powers. She reluctantly becomes Magical Nurse and fights waves of masked figures. Meanwhile, a Magical Maid and a Magical Sister also show up.

Nurse Witch Komugi-chan was a series of OVA’s that spun-off from the Soul Taker anime – I personally haven’t seen either of them.  However this appears to be a complete reboot with a new cast and setting, so I doubt you’ll need to have seen the originals to watch this.  I’m not really interested though.

TV

Ajin: Demi Human

Summary: Anime adaptation of Gamon Sakurai’s manga series.

In the manga’s story, an immortal first appeared on an African battlefield 17 years ago. Later, rare, unknown new immortal lifeforms began appearing among humans, and they became known as “Ajin” (demi-humans). Just before summer vacation, a Japanese high school student named Kei Nagai is instantly killed in a traffic accident on his way home from school. However, he is revived, and a price is placed on his head. Thus begins a boy’s life on the run from all of humankind.

I really like the Ajin manga – it’s really intense and interesting so I’m super pleased that it’s getting an anime adapatation (although since the story is ongoing I’m a bit concerned that this is a bit pre-emptive).  The Ajin manga is also getting a movie trilogy, but I believe those are in this same CGI animation, which is a bit of a shame since I’m not really a fan of this style.  I think the CGI style will work very well for the Ajin creatures though, since they’re kind of unnerving to start with, however I still don’t think CGI animation is quite there with character faces.  It has certainly improved dramatically recently (Polygon are at the top of the game in this regard), but there is still this level of uncanny valley present that just takes me out of the show.

Active Raid: Kidou Kyoushuushitsu Dai Hakkei (Special Public Security Fifth Division Third Mobile Assault Eighth Unit)

Summary: Split cour original series.

Set in a part of Tokyo that has descended into a quagmire, the story follows Unit 8 of the 5th Special Public Security Section’s 3rd Mobile Assault Division — popularly called “The Eighth” — who don powered armor “Willware” exoskeletons to counter the rise in crime. Assistant inspector Asami Kazari is assigned to The Eighth with the task of assessing the unit’s status and reporting it to her superiors. But her true goal is to rehabilitate this sloppy, haphazard, justice-less group.

I think I’m only super interested in Active Raid because of the people working on it.  I’m really keen to see a new original series directed by Goro Taniguchi – music in the PV is giving me serious Code Geass vibes!

Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm

Summary: Anime adaptation of fairys & sprite’s eroge.

The game’s story is set on an archipelago of four islands far south of Japan or even the South Seas. It is all but a different world from modern Japan. From the discovery of anti-gravitons came the dream invention of anti-graviton shoes (“grash”) that let people fly the skies. They introduce people to a new realm by enabling flight with just one’s own body strength, without feathers or engines. This led to the rise of the sport of “Flying Circus” (dogfight race).

The protagonist who once hoped for a future in this sport suffered a setback due to an overwhelming defeat, and withdrew from the sport for this and some other reason. However, he met the transfer student Asuka Kurashina, and in teaching her to fly the skies, the old passion returned. He takes part in the Flying Circus again.

I might have been interested if I’d just read the synopsis alone, but the bog-standard VN character designs, the eroge source material and the fact it’s Gonzo producing this, mostly killed any fledgling interest I had.

ERASED – Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (The Town Where Only I Am Missing)

Summary: Anime adaptation of Kei Sanbe’s manga series.  Airing in the Noitamina timeslot.

Satoru Fujinuma is a struggling manga artist who has the ability to turn back time and prevent deaths. When his mother is killed he turns back time to solve the mystery, but ends up back in elementary school, just before the disappearance of his classmate Kayo.

Noitamina are really loving their mystery series this weather.  Following on the heels of the Autumn season’s The Perfect Insider, we get another mystery – this time with a bit of a supernatural spin.  I’m really interested in this, hopefully I find it a bit more engaging than The Perfect Insider!

Bubuki Buranki

Summary: Original anime celebrating SANIGEN’s 10th anniversary.

Returning to Japan after having been away for 10 years, Azuma Akira finds himself attacked and captured by armed strangers. What saves him is his childhood friend, the girl Ōgon Asabuki, and the Bubuki that had become her right hand.

Sanzigen are clearly out to show just what they can do with CGI animation with this project – it does look pretty impressive.  I’m getting weird Narutaru vibes from the show though, which is confusing me since I didn’t like Narutaru.  Think it is the weapon designs coupled with the young characters and darker vibe of some of the action in the PV.  I’ll certainly be giving this a look, hard to know how it will turn out.

Dagashi Kashi

Summary: Anime adaptation of Kotoyama’s manga series.

Kokonotsu Shikada does not want to inherit his family’s rural candy store as his father wishes. A girl named Hotaru, who’s crazy about small-time candy stores, appears at the store and repeatedly visits in order to convince him to take it over.

The weird eyes in the character designs are bugging me…..that’s about all I have to say about this one.  Really not interested.

Dimension W

Summary: Anime adaptation of Yuji Iwahara’s manga series.

In the year 2072, the world’s energy problems seem solved by a network of cross-dimensional electric-field inductors—”coils”—that extract energy from a seemingly infinite source. That source is the W dimension, a fourth plane that exists beyond the X, Y, and Z dimensions. In this world, unofficial “illegal” coils harness powers that the police can’t hope to counter. Dealing with these coils is the job of coil-hating repo man Kyoma, whose run-in with the unique coil android Mira leads the two to form a reluctant partnership.

I like the look of this – superpowers are very in at the moment, it’s got a nice stylish vibe and an interesting setting.  Remains to be seen if the story and characters can hold up to the visuals though.  Will be checking it out.

Divine Gate

Summary: Anime adaptation of GungHo Online Entertainment and Acquire’s iOS and Android panel RPG game app.

When the Divine Gate opened, the living world, the heavens, and the underworld became connected, ushering an era of chaos where desires and conflict intersect. To restore order, the World Council is formed. As peace is restored, the Divine Gate becomes an urban legend. In that world, boys and girls deemed fit by the World Council are gathered. They are ones who aim to reach the gate for their personal objectives. Those who reach the gate can remake the world. What lies beyond the gate? When they reach the door, will the world change? Will it be the past that changes, or will it be the future?

Turning app games into anime is a new trend that I’m not completely convinced by yet since there isn’t really enough substance in the games to really necessitate the full anime treatment.  Still this looks decent enough – pretty generic, but could be interesting.  Might have a look.

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar (Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash)

Summary: Anime adaptation of Ao Jūmonji’s light novel series.

Why are we here? Why are we doing this? Before Haruhiro had realized what happened, he was surrounded by darkness. Why was he here? Where was here? Even now, he still didn’t know. Those around him were the same as him, no one remembered anything other than their own names. And when they emerged from the darkness, the world that awaited them seemed like something out of a video game. In order to survive, Haruhiro forms a party with the others, learns fighting skills, and as a soldier in the reserve force, takes his first steps into the world of Grimgar. What awaits him there, he doesn’t know… This the story of an adventure born from the ashes.

Existential crisis in an RPG…….wonderful.  I do like the watercolour artstyle though – looks nice at the very least, although given the way the camera focuses on the girls arses that sort of destroys the illus

Haruchika: Haruta to Chika wa Seishun Suru

Summary: Anime adaptation of Sei Hatsuno’s mystery novel series.

Haruta and Chika are members of their high school wind instrument club that is on the verge of being shut down. The two are childhood friends, and they spend their days practicing hard while also trying to recruit new members. When a certain incident happens within their school, they work together to solve it.

I didn’t immediately pick this out as being a PA Works show – it isn’t as pretty looking as their normal output…….plus those weird eyes.  Although given how shiny everything is I probably should have guessed.  Can’t say I’m feeling enthusiastic about this series – I enjoy mystery shows, but think this will be more s’life than anything else.

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!

Summary: Anime adaptation of Natsume Akatsuki’s light novel series.

Kazuma Satou, a shut-in and die-hard fan of games, anime, and manga, suffers a traffic accident that would bring his disappointingly brief life to an end. However, he wakes up and sees a beautiful girl who introduces herself as a goddess and says: “Hey, I have some good news: would you like to go to an alternate world? You may only bring one thing you like with you.” He responds: “So, I’ll bring you.” With that, he is transported to another world, and his great adventure quest for subjugating the demon king begins, but first goes the hard work like finding food, clothing, and shelter. Kazuma wants to live in peace, but the goddess raises one problem after another, and the demon king’s army has its eyes set on him.

Shitty LN adaptation about a fella transported to an RPG world populated by cute girls……..sure haven’t seen this before!

Koukaku no Pandora (Pandora in the Crimson Shell)

Summary: Anime adaptation of Koushi Rikudou & Masamune Shirow’s manga series.

In an age when large-scale natural disasters frequently happen all over the world, when cyborgs and autonomous robots are beginning to appear on the market in technologically advanced nations and major world powers compete for technology and resources, the divide between rich and poor grows and the future for the poor looks bleak. In this transitional stage, everyone wanders around in a self-indulgent daze and the way out isn’t clear… This is the story of how two cybernetically enhanced girls meet.

Again, if I had just read the synopsis alone maybe I’d have been interested – but all the other information just ruins any smidegon of interest I had.

Luck & Logic

Summary: Original anime.

In L.C. 922, people faced a sudden crisis. In Tetra Heaven, the land of legend, a hundred years of war had come to a close. The gods who lost the war searched for a new place to live, and found it in Septpia, the human world, which they proceeded to attack. The Logicalists attached to ALCA, a special police agency whose duty it was to protect cities from assaults by foreigners (angels), were compelled to act in defense of cities, whether they wished to or not. And depending on their ability, Logicalists could initiate trance with goddesses from the other world, and stand a fighting chance on the battlefield.
A civilian named Tsurugi Yoshichika, who lacked Logic and lived happily with his family, was caught up in an attack, and took shelter along with many people. He meets a beautiful goddess named Athena. In her hands, she had the Logic that Yoshichika lacked. Now both Yoshichika and Athena head to their destiny.

PLAY OUR CARD GAME!  Oh yeah, and watch this anime we made to promote its release.  I sure do love how elaborate these card games get – so much effort goes into the setting and design!  Luck & Logic looks super colourful and eye-catching, but I doubt it will be worth watching.  I will be checking out the first episode though.

Mahou Shoujo Nante Mou ii Desu Kara. (I’ve Had Enough of Being a Magical Girl)

Summary: Anime adaptation of Sui Futami’s manga series.

Yuzuka Hanami is a young girl who has few friends but who can do anything. One day, Yuzuka gets accosted by a strange creature named Miton who is digging through a trash dump. Miton tells Yuzuka, “you have the makings of a magical girl” and seems extremely suspicious. When Yuzuka is suddenly transformed into a magical girl, she’s wearing a bathing suit.

I think this is a short, but not completely sure.  I won’t be watching it anyway.

Musaigen no Phantom World (Myriad Colours Phantom World)

Summary: Anime adaptation of Sōichirō Hatano’s novel.

The story takes place in the near future, in a world born of human imagination. What humans would call ghosts or monsters appear, and they come to be called “phantoms.” The main character, Ichijou Haruhiko, is a first year at Hosea Academy along with his upperclassman Kawakami Mai, who fights phantoms with the ability “Spirit of Five Elements,” Izumi Reina, who has the ability “Phantom Eater,” and Koito Minase, who fights phantoms in solitude. They experience the ups and downs of high school life before a certain incident leads them to the truth of this world.

Well KyoAni are trying their hand at another magical high school action show – hopefully this will be better than Kyoukai no Kanata, although I’m not optimistic.  Still it will look good, I’ll probably watch it for the visual spectacle alone to be honest.

Norn9: Norn + Nonette

Summary: Anime adaptation of Idea Factory’s otome game.

The story takes place a little in the future. Guided by one particular song, young elementary school student Suzuhara Sorata, from the Heisei Era, is warped through a time skip to an unfamiliar place that looks much like the towns from the Meiji or Taishou period from his textbooks. In this world, he meets three young ladies and nine young men and joins them on a journey aboard the mysterious Norn ship, a giant globe that floats in midair.

I thought this was a BL game to start with, but nope, it’s an otome game – and boy do those character designs look otome gamey!  Hope it’s either super dramatic or really cheesy – or some glorious combination of the two.

Phantasy Star Online 2 – The Animation

Summary: Anime adaptation of Sega’s game.

The Phantasy Star Online 2 The Animation series will have a completely original story, and the story will take place on Earth in the near future.

Yeah…….no.  Not for me thanks.

Prince of Stride: Alternative

Summary: Anime adaptation of Kadokawa’s otome game.

The series is about an extreme form of sport known as “Stride.” It involves 6 players on a team that runs relay races in towns. The story takes place at Honan Academy where first year high school students Takeru Fujiwara and Nana Sakurai try to recruit members for their “Stride” club. They request Riku Yagami to join with the help of Takeru and Nana. Their goal is to compete and win the “End of Summer,” a top competition hosted in Japan alongside other schools.

I’ll take this though, looks super pretty and Madhouse have really been on top form for action animation recently!  Hyped.

Reikenzan: Hoshikuzu-tachi no Utage

Summary: Anime adaptation of Guo Wang Bi Xia’s novel.

Since its founding in the year 4233 of the Nine Provinces calendar, the spirit sword clan has been producing first-class martial arts talent. Two thousand years later, the clan, which adheres to the principles of peace and spiritual development, seeks to find new disciples by holding a grand tournament. One of these candidates is 12-year-old Wang Lu who possesses a special soul that is only available once in a thousand years and he starts down the path toward becoming an exceptional sage.

This could go either way – depends on if it gets bogged down in a shounen style tournament with very little character or world development or not.  Will be checking it out – Studio DEEN sometimes surprise me with their shows.

Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut

Summary: Anime adaptation of Senri Akatsuki’s light novel series.

The story revolves around Lux, a former prince of an empire named Arcadia that was overthrown via a rebellion five years earlier. Lux accidentally trespasses in a female dormitory’s bathing area, sees the kingdom’s new princess Lisesharte naked, and incurs her wrath. Lisesharte then challenges Lux to a Drag-Ride duel. Drag-Rides are ancient armored mechanical weapons that have been excavated from ruins all around the world. Lux used to be called the strongest Drag-Knight, but now he’s known as the “undefeated weakest” Drag-Knight because he will absolutely not attack in battle. After his duel with Lisesharte, Lux ends up attending the female-only academy that trains royals to be Drag-Knights.

I swear there were a few shows airing during the Autumn season with this exact same premise…….I didn’t watch them either.

Shoujo-tachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu

Summary: Anime adaptation of Takahiro (MinatoSoft)’s PC Game.

In the story, Buntarou is a student who wants to be something, but doesn’t know what. One day his female classmate Sayuki announces she is working on a bishoujo game. Sayuki scouted him because he wrote a good script for drama club, but Buntarou doesn’t know anything about bishoujo games.

So something similar to Saekano then?  I won’t be watching this.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu

Summary: Anime adaptation of Haruko Kumota’s manga series.

When a certain man is released from prison, he knows exactly where he’s heading first. After falling in love with a traditional comic storyteller’s rendition of the story called “Shinigami,” he is determined to become his apprentice. The performer, Yakumo, has never taken an apprentice before, but to everyone’s surprise, he accepts the eager ex-prisoner, nicknaming him “Yotaro.” As Yotaro happily begins his new life, he meets others in Yakumo’s life, including Yakumo’s ward Konatsu. Konatsu was the daughter of a famous storyteller, and Yakumo took her in after her father’s tragic death. Konatsu loved her father’s storytelling, and would love to become a performer in her own right—but that path is not available for women.

I’m definitely interested in this and I really, really hope someone picks it up to stream!  I wanted to watch the OVA but there are no English subs available for it at the moment which was disappointing.

Ooya-san wa Shishunki! (Landlord is in Puberty)

Summary: Anime adaptation of Rurū Minase’s manga series.

The protagonist is living alone for the first time after finding employment. At his tiny, no-bath apartment he finds a landlord who looks like a little sister. She does the cooking and housework, so sometimes she seems like a grandmother, but she also enjoys a normal middle school life with her friends.

Probably shorts.  Probably crap.

Oshiete! Galko-chan

Summary: Anime adaptation of Kenya Suzuki’s manga series.

Galko, Otako, Ojō are a “gal,” an otaku, and a proper lady and also good friends. The three high school girls with different perspectives discuss the kinds of secrets you can’t tell boys.

Also probably shorts.  Also probably crap.

Shorts

Nijiiro Days (Rainbow Days)

Summary: Anime adaptation of Minami Mizuno’s manga series. 15 minute run time – 2 cours.

Natsuki, Tomoya, Keiichi, and Tsuyoshi are high school students and close friends: The four boys have no club activities, and they hurry through their studies so they can spend their days having fun. Their main topic of interest: love. Natsuki has an unrequited crush on Anna, a girl from another class, and his friends keep meddling in their relationship.

Half episode run-time for this adaptation should work well since the manga is mostly short s’life segments.  It’s a pretty cute series that doesn’t require much brain power. I’ll be watching this.

Sekkou Boys

Summary: The concept is the brainchild of the character goods maker Zargiani Works, media company Kadokawa, and art supplier Holbein Artist Materials.

Sekkō Boys is a unit of four stone figures — the military saint and group leader Saint Giorgio, history’s original celebrity Medici, the strikingly handsome and multi-talented Hermes, and the god of war Mars who is earnest about love — who become idiosyncratic idols. The story depicts their efforts to make it in the entertainment world with their female manager Miki Ishimoto, who just graduated from college.

It’s shows like this that keep me coming back to anime.  What other media would possibily come up with this ridiculous concept!?  I fecking can’t wait to see this!

Yami Shibai S3

Summary: Third season of the horror anime series of shorts. The new season will feature more than 100 weird characters and will focus on urban legends.

More Yami Shibai is a good thing.

OVAs / Specials

Kono Danshi, Mahou ga Oshigoto Desu. (This Boy, Works With Magic)

Summary: Original four episode anime series – latest in Soubi Yamamoto’s Kono Danshi… series.

Chiharu is a wizard in charge of the magic department’s crisis counter-measure division. His days are hectic, but he meets a candid young man named Toyohi at his favorite bar, and the two hit it off. On their way home, Toyohi suddenly confesses to Chiharu. Chiharu is at first bewildered at his unexpected confession, but he starts to fall into Toyohi’s pace, and the two begin to spend more time together. However, after a mistake at work, Chiharu decides to devote himself to his work and pushes Toyohi away.

Think this is the first of the ‘Konno Danshi….’ anime to be more than a single episode.  I’m really curious to see what Soubi Yamamoto will do with the additional time.

Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt

Summary: Four episode ONA. Adaptation of the Gundam Thunderbolt manga.

During the One Year War of U.C. 0079, the Earth Federation and Principality of Zeon engage in a fierce battle at the “Thunderbolt Sector”, a shoal zone in the former Colony Side 4 “Mua”.

Gundam: The Edgelord years.  Looks kinda trashy, think I’ll watch it.

Tokyo Ghoul: Pinto

Summary: Second OVA for the anime adaptation of Sui Ishida’s manga series. It will cover the third story in the Tokyo Ghoul: Hibi novel when Shū Tsukiyama and Chie Hori met when Shū was in high school.

I love how the PV is just Mamoru Miyano making all these random noises, which is the best thing about Shuu really.  I’m sort of locked into Tokyo Ghoul now, so I’ll watch whatever they fire at me at this point.

Macross Δ (Macross Delta)

Summary: Special broadcast for the latest TV anime in the Macross franchise.

Five girls form the “Tactical Music Unit” Walküre, the first major songstress group in the Macross anime franchise. The Walküre group battles the Var Syndrome that is consuming the galaxy, and there is also the mysterious Aerial Knights Valkyrie fighter team of the Kingdom of Wind.

I’m not actually sure when the full series starts to air, all I know is that there is a special airing on new years eve which will probably be a version of the first episode.  It’s Macross so I’m going to watch it, but I have to say I’m not super convinced by the battle idol group aspect – mainly because I’m not really a fan of idol shows in general.  But we’ll see – the mecha looks awesome thankfully!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Okay, we’re done!  Looks like an okay season, a few things I’m defintely interested in, but nothing really exciting.

As ever all information has been cobbled together from the ever reliable ANN, MAL, Crunchyroll, AniChart.net, Neregate, Senpai Anime Charts and everyone’s friend – Google.

First impressions will start flooding in whenever I have time in January along with all the other end of year posts that are traditional!  See you then~!

Anyway, the Autumn season ended up being a bit of a mixed bag – shows I was looking forward to didn’t quite live up to the hype and shows I was a bit iffy about ended up being my favourites of the season! Just goes to show you, I can be mistaken

This is me during this entire year, if I’m being honest.

Not really a bad thing though – surprises are always a nice thing.

Looks like we’ll be watching mostly the same stuff – I’m especially happy for the return of Shirayuki and Durarara, and as far as the brand new shows are concerned I think Boku dake ga Inai Machi and Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu look the most promising. Dimension W, Divine Gate, Hai to Gensou no Grimgar, Nijiiro Days, Norn9, Prince of Stride, and Shounen Maid are all on my to-watch list too, although I’m not really expecting any of these to be actually good. Entertaining though, hopefully! Combined with my ongoing shows from the fall season (Osomatsu-san, Iron-Blooded Orphans, and Lupin) I should have a pretty full plate each week. 🙂

I say this every season, but I only want to pick up a couple of shows so I can tackle some of my backlog……one day I’ll stick to my word!

This season looks pretty dire for me, but I think I’ll take the tactic of trying a bunch of stuff even if I don’t think I’ll like any of it, and hopefully SOMETHING will stick. Thanks for your excellent preview post, as always! It’s so helpful to pick out things to watch.

    • December 28, 2015 1:26 am

Sampling a bit of everything is a great way to discover new stuff – only downside is you end up picking up much more than initially planned!

Glad to hear my previews are useful to someone other than myself 🙂
